Is there a WordPress Twenty Twenty-Six theme?

WordPress 7.0, due in April 2026, will follow the same path, confirming that there will be no Twenty Twenty-Six WordPress theme this year.
Rather than rushing a theme to meet expectations, the WordPress development team chose to focus on improving the block editor experience, enhancing performance, and refining core functionality. That leaves a real gap for users who relied on default themes as a clean, modern starting point.
This shift also reflects a broader change in how WordPress thinks about themes. Block themes have matured significantly since Twenty Twenty-Two introduced full site editing. WordPress skipping a yearly release is less an admission of failure and more an acknowledgment that the ecosystem no longer needs a new one every year to move forward.
The next default theme: Twenty Twenty-Seven
WordPress has announced its next default theme for 2027. Twenty Twenty-Seven will be led by Henrique Iamarino, theme designer at Automattic, and a public call for contributors has only recently opened.
