Confidence arrives before explanation. Sharp silhouettes and instinctive gestures move between stillness and release, while flashes of color cut through the frame. The mood shifts from controlled to electric, with tension left in the air. Nothing fully settles, and the charge is allowed to linger.

A weekend away unfolds through small rituals, measured gestures and time left deliberately unhurried. What begins with a sense of occasion gradually settles into something more private, where elegance gives way to ease. By the end, the hours seem to belong entirely to themselves.

Atelier Sorai presents High summer through ease and restraint. Light layers, natural textures and a muted palette move easily against open desert, fading light and long horizons. The season takes shape at its own pace, with a sense of distance that makes the day feel almost endless.

The hours lose their shape somewhere between television light, old magazines and rooms gone quiet. He stays awake as the house settles around him, passing the night without urgency or destination. Outside, morning is beginning somewhere, but in here the darkness is allowed to linger.

The room held the afternoon longer than it should have. A suitcase waited by the curtain, the fan kept turning, and the light moved slowly across everything that had been left in place. For a few hours, there was nowhere urgent to be and no reason to explain what came next.

By late afternoon, the road had stopped offering answers. A folded map, half a tank, and the kind of heat that makes every decision feel permanent. Nothing on the horizon seemed close enough to matter. Somewhere beyond the next ridge, the day was already turning into memory.

I spent most of the week moving between shows, backstage areas, and a few editorial and brand shoots. Some days started early and finished very late, and plans often changed at the last minute. I tried to keep my equipment light and carry only what I really needed. It made everything much easier when moving around Paris all day.

Backstage was usually crowded, with people getting ready, changing looks, and waiting for the show to start. I took portraits when there was a little time and photographed whatever was happening around me. Sometimes you only get a few minutes with someone, so there is not much time to overthink it.

By the end of the week, I was exhausted but happy with what I had made. Fashion Week always goes very fast, and every day feels different from the one before. It is intense for a few days, but I still enjoy the mix of assignments, shows, and people that comes with that week.

We spent a few days with Emmanuelle and Jack shooting a new editorial. We kept the team small and the schedule relaxed, which gave us time to work through different setups without rushing. There was room to try things, change direction when needed, and let the day develop naturally from one idea to another.

We moved between a few locations and worked mostly with the available light. There was a lot of time between shots to talk, adjust small details, and decide what we wanted to try next. Keeping everything simple made the shoot feel easy and focused.

By the end of the day, we had a mix of planned images and a few unexpected ones that came together while we were working. Those are often the photographs I enjoy most, because they come naturally from the people, the location, and the moment.

We spent a week travelling around Iceland for a campaign shoot, with a converted Land Rover as our base on the road. It carried most of what we needed during the day, from camera equipment and clothes to food and laptops. The weather changed constantly, and temperatures sometimes dropped close to -20°C. It was demanding, but it also made the whole trip more memorable.

A lot of the practical work happened from the car, including charging batteries, backing up files, editing, and planning the next day. Having everything close by made it easier to keep moving and change the schedule whenever the weather changed.

By the end of the week, we were tired, cold, and very used to working from the Land Rover. It was completely different from a normal production, which is probably why the trip stayed with me. I would happily do the whole thing again.

I’m planning a new series of photography workshops in Paris this autumn, focused on portraiture, lighting, and working with people on set. The sessions will be practical and hands-on, with time to shoot, review images, and discuss different approaches. I’ll also share how I prepare for a shoot, work with light, and make decisions on set.

The workshops will take place at Studio 51, rue de Verneuil in Paris and will be open to a small number of participants. We’ll work through different setups during the day, with time for questions, testing ideas, and individual feedback. The goal is to keep the sessions practical, focused, and easy to follow.

I took a few days off at the end of summer to slow down and spend some time away from work. There was no real plan for the week, which was exactly what I needed. I spent most of the days outside, taking long walks, reading, swimming, and enjoying a different rhythm. It was good to have some time without a schedule.

I always find it useful to step away from work for a few days. It gives me time to think about other things and come back with a clearer mind. I usually bring a camera with me, but without any pressure to make something specific or useful.

The days went by quickly, as they usually do when there is nowhere to be. I came back to Paris rested, with a clearer head and more energy for the next projects. It was a simple break from the usual routine, but exactly what I needed.

I’ve been trying to make more time for exhibitions whenever I’m travelling or between shoots. A recent visit to IMMA in Dublin to see Wolfgang Tillmans was a good reminder of how different it feels to spend time with photographs away from a screen. I always come back from these visits having noticed something new, with a few ideas to think about and images that stay with me for a while.

Back in Paris, I visited a few more photography shows and galleries over the following weeks. I usually go without much of a plan and spend time with whatever catches my attention. Sometimes it is the work itself, but just as often it is the sequencing, scale, framing, or the way a room has been put together.

I try not to photograph everything or take too many notes while I’m there. It is useful to simply look and let things stay in my head for a while. Visiting exhibitions has always been an important part of how I discover new work and stay curious.
